Electrical fault finding that gets to the actual cause
You've got power flickering, a circuit that trips randomly, a light that buzzes, or something that just doesn't feel right, and nobody's been able to pin down why. Intermittent faults are frustrating because they don't always show up when someone's looking, so it takes proper testing rather than guesswork to track down.
What's involved
- 1 Ask what you've noticed and when it happens, since timing and triggers are useful clues
- 2 Test the switchboard, circuits and suspect areas systematically
- 3 Isolate circuits one at a time to narrow down the source
- 4 Identify the specific cause, not just a symptom
- 5 Explain what's wrong and what the fix involves before doing further work
- 6 Carry out the repair if it's straightforward, or quote separately for larger work
What happens next
- 1 Call and describe what's happening — when it started, how often, any pattern
- 2 We give you an honest estimate and get there as soon as we reasonably can
- 3 Fault is diagnosed, explained clearly, and fixed on the spot where possible
Fault Finding — common questions
The problem only happens sometimes — can you still find it?
Yes, though intermittent faults take a bit more work than a fault that's constant. Any detail you can give us — time of day, weather, which appliance was running — helps narrow it down faster.
How much will fault finding cost if you don't know the cause yet?
We charge an hourly rate for diagnosis since the time needed varies by fault. Most straightforward issues are found within the first hour. If it turns into a bigger job, we'll quote that separately before proceeding.
Is a tripping circuit dangerous or just annoying?
A safety switch tripping is usually doing exactly what it's meant to — protecting you from a fault. It shouldn't be ignored or repeatedly reset without finding out why, since the underlying cause can get worse.
Can you find faults hidden in walls or ceilings without ripping them open?
In most cases yes, using testing equipment to trace the circuit and narrow down the location before any wall or ceiling access is needed.
Do you provide a report or certificate after fault finding?
If repair work is carried out, you'll get a compliance certificate for that work. We're also happy to explain findings in writing if you need it for insurance or a landlord.
Is the repair covered under warranty?
Yes, workmanship on any repair carried out is guaranteed.
